Flavoured meat

When fishing I generally use meat on my down stream rod , and then either feeder or pva bag on the other, if you were fishing with meat, how many trips would you use the same meat if its frozen between trips ?

Hi Matt, you can leave spam in your pellet box for months and it won't go off, eventually it takes on a very similar consistency to peperami, and will still catch barbel.

Wow! That’s some strong preservative treatment in that meat.

Be warned though, a mate of mine caught a nasty case of the Ballroom Blitz after cross contaminating his own lunch with some unmentionable bacteria from his bait. He was poleaxed for a good few days after that.

Yeh, I was thinking I’d left it too long, it didn’t smell great at the weekend, maybe I need to flavour the next batch

Adding rock salt will prolong the life of the meat and some additional oil. The rock salt depending on quantity will sort of cure the meat.

After having campylobacter infection and 11 days worth of resulting trots and pain , I use it , freeze it once and then if not used up a second time dispose of. It’s not worth the risk. In the summer it gets used up and never kept. I don’t ever want that bug again it took years to recover from fully

Blimey, I’d don’t know it could be that bad , think I’ll bin it all when I get home

I cut my flavoured meat into 1" cubes, place in a plastic bag inside a screw-top (ex body cream or whatever the missus used, container). I don't touch the meat, I use a baiting needle to put it on the hooklength (with quick change swivel thingy) sliding down on to the hook. Since I only make one or two casts per session the meat lasts for months, so in and out of the freezer. Never had a problem.

The last thing I'd be worried about getting on my hands on a rat infested, swan sh1te bedecked bank would be my luncheon meat, that's been in a plastic bag, inside a tub, in and out of the freezer (especially if it had a light covering of garlic oil).

Probably the last thing my pal was worried about too, until he found himself squitting through the eye of a needle.
