New Daiwa Theory Speci

For anyone interested, just seen that there is a Daiwa Theory Speci rod (New for ‘25) in 1.75lb & 2lb
Think the last ones were well regarded so might be worth a look?
List price is £134 so imagine they’ll be £120 (ish)??

I bought a pair of 2.25lb Theories years ago for very occasional Trent forays and found them to be decent given the price at the time , the 1.5TC with quiver seem to be rated for Chub fishing too.

The handles and reel seats really look lovely. Daiwa are always the best when it comes to putting a good handle together.
Float rods a touch on the weighty side but they may feel nice and well balanced in the hand. Depends where that weight is really

The original Daiwa Theory's were very highly regarded and considered great value. A friend who used to work in a tackle shop said he sold loads of them over the years and always had great feedback.

Yes, the Armlock handles are lovely. Have them on both my infinity evo and powermesh.

I’m looking for a 15 float rod at the moment and have been weighing up Acolyte and Cadence options but with the armlock handle on the Daiwa then I think I may need to give one of these a waggle before I pull the trigger.

I think the new Preston 14/15 foot rods are worth a look also. The handle on those looks equally brilliant and ergonomic as the daiwa.
I’ve not handled one in the flesh yet but I’ll get round to it at some point.
Pricey rods mind so I’d only buy one if it really wow’s me.

I was also going to say that I’m surprised no one else has copied the Armalock concept. I know it’s patented, and all that, but it can’t be to hard to circumvent the patent restrictions. It is, after al,l just a flattened cork handle. I see that Preston has pretty much the same but in duplon instead of cork. Perhaps that’s one of the limitations of the patent?

Either way the Preston does look nice but too much money for me, for what would be only an infrequently used rod.

I had a special feeder11/13 with a larger size armlok ie thicker. maybe 1/4 or 5/26th all round. . I think Abu made it for a tackle shop in Hull maybe circa 2010 or before .The chunkier the better for me.I thought the handle was the best I have used. Flicked out feeders up to 1oz the best too

I know it’s not every one’s cup of tea, but I am really interested in the new daiwa Connoisseur Pro Bolo rods.

I've been told that the Daiwa Armlock patent expired a few years back. Preston didn't waste any time bringing out their version of it.

I thought it had expired a little while back aswell. Depending on what the patent was actually covering you could say browning had a crack at it with thier flat support part of the handle also. Does the same job of keeping the rod butt from rolling off the underside of your forearm

Yes true I have a version of it on my browning silverlite cc pro but it's a quite slim handle as a match rod. I prefer the daiwa beefier type.

You’ve got flat arm lock parts on the spheres handles too they just don’t cover the whole handles diameter, and with patents, the devil is in the detail. As far as I know the daiwa arm lock lost all protection ages ago. possibly before the spheres were launched

Again true about the patents. Tried a few times to go down that route with products or solutions but the proceedure and cost involved was quite something. I only ever had one sphere, the 10ft bomb, for a short period.

I can only find the rods on Diawa's site. Is there a release date ? The tackle dealers I phoned didn't know much about the rods.
