Brolly reviews

Korum super lite river brolly is really good
I do use with storm poles for longer sessions which makes it ‘ not so’ super lite but does offer a very good shelter

I’m in the same position and also looking for one.

Narrowed it down to Korum Super Lite River or the Drennan Specialist Umbrella.

Both have the following:
Removable centre pole
Pegging points
Bank stick threads

I’ve got both & use both at different times. The Drennan is (obviously) bigger (& slightly better quality)if you can get away with it but the River brolly is also good for when the banks are steeply sloped, space is tight and you’ve got to carry long distance, although i’ve also added storm pole attachments for stability (take out the centre pole completely) so the weight advantage isn’t completely lost. Find myself using the Korum most of the time and am happy with it, never let water through even though it looks like Stevie Wonder sewed the seams up 😎🤣

I can only comment on the Drennan SS Brolly. It’s lighter than the brolly it replaced and is very well made. Had it over 12 months and I’m very happy with it.

My only slight niggle is the brolly spike is somewhere between a conventional spike and screw spike, it’s also not a particularly sharp point. Fine in soft ground, but you struggle pushing/screwing it in to dried out firm ground, when using as a conventional brolly.

Korum Graphite Brolly shelter for me when protection coupled with relatively light, sturdy and compact is needed, this is my go to brolly ;)

I’m still using the mk2 graphite brolly.
I’ve looked at both the drennan and the Korum river brolly as potential upgrades but the sheer fact that both have a low, flat front instead of the brilliant peaked front offered on the Korum graphite It seems these are a step backwards rather then an upgrade

I recently started a similar 'which brolly' thread and I agree with Richard's comment about the flat tops on some brollies.

I'm looking at the Pentalite (five sections, pointy top), and the new Progress brolly. The latter appears to have eight sections, but still has a pointed top.

As usual for Korum (although Korda are worse), they leave you guessing on the dimensions, giving width depth and height of the Pentalite and only the height and width of the Progress, making a comparison difficult... I wish they'd make some 'progress' with their website.

Fox specialist for me,has the pointy top,5 pegging points, including pegs + 2 extra storm pole fixings, had to buy an esp quiver for it to fit in though lol

The side flaps look pretty small, almost pointless, on those, unless I'm looking at pictures of a different brolly.

I use an old Korum graphite brolly, for when I've a bit of a walk. Couple of small holes but still keep dry. Had it over a decade.
For shorter walks or anticipated bad conditions, the Pentalite is the perfect shelter. Takes a couple of minutes to erect, etc, so not ideal for roving. Will keep the rain off you and your tackle, however. Bomb proof!

I’m 6’3”, the Drennan is great. There isn’t much room under the River brolly although my Korum lightweight chair is that low to the ground i get away with it (just!). I find myself standing up most of the time in all weather with just my gear under it, think it’s because the chair is that low i find it uncomfortable. I’ve had a cushion made for the top of my ridgemonkey bait bucket and use that to perch on when i need a seat

I’m also a lanky 6’4 Christian and find the drennan fine, I’ve always struggled a bit with Korum brollies I’ve had unless on a really low seat

Neat. I have the Ridgemonkey bucket too. My club has a rule: no sealable bucket, no fishing, and you will be asked to leave if you fail to show the Bailif your bucket. Rightly so, imo. And so I not only bought the Ridgemonkey bucket but also the rather neat toilet seat they make for it too. Infinitely more comfortable than a knee trembler, hovering over a bag or having the thin, sharp lip of a bucket pressed into one’s tender arse cheeks.
