Hi all,

Has anyone used the Korum Omega rods?

I've overly picky when it comes to rods, most 12ft 1.75 Barbel rods all feel tip heavy to me and not very suited to smaller rivers like the W.Avon where I fish. The Omega seems the best I've seen recently. I bought the new Drennan Barbel rod for this season but might get rid of it before I've even used it.

I've seen the specs on the Omega rods and Korum state the 1.25lb version is rated up to 90g with a 6-12lb line rating. That pretty much matches 1.75 rods out there from other brands and even their own Barbel rods.

I was just wondering if brands would over spec their rods for some reason or because these rods are more fast action whether those specs would be correct?, if so I could get away with the 1.25 or 1.5 for my own Barbel fishing.

I've managed to see the 1.75 version but no where has the lighter version in stock near to me to be able to look at one.

So just wondering if anyone has any of these rods or have seen the light versions and their opinions on them.

These rods have a huge discount on some shops recently, you can pick for under 80, I would say just buy one and if you don't like it just get rid of it.

BTW, if you are picky, why not try Harrison, freespirit?
 
Yeah I've seen them discounted, the last few seasons I've been pretty much 100% korum so I'm used to them heavily discounting their products.

The only reason I haven't gone for those higher end brands was down to me being worried I'd buy one and them still feeling similar to what I've already tried. I mean I'm sure most 12ft rods in higher TC are going to feel a bit tip heavy?
 
I've liked the look of these (cosmetically) since they were launched, but that's superficial and you don't find many, if any, reviews.

I like Korum gear, but I think they overdo the superlatives in their promo videos - saying things like: "...it doesn't get much better than this..."... when in many cases, it probably does.

But like HZ says, just buy one while they are heavily discounted and you won't lose much if you decide to move it on. Scratch that itch!

But they do look nice and I like the fast action, after seeing the 1.75 version.

But I doubt the 1.25 will cast 90g and be suitable for up to 12lb, if it could it would be my all round chub and Barbel rod

I've come to the conclusion that there's no such thing as an all-round chub AND barbel trod, but do you really want a fast action for chub?

Personally yes, they are just what I'm used to and prefer. What is the benefit of through action these days? I liked them back in the day but not sure why after using using faster action rods.

All I can say is torrix 12ft 1.25lb is what you want. Fast action, but a powerful butt section.
 
I was going to say think about Torrix...the 11ft 1.75 is ideal for the Warks Avon. Well balanced and if you do get one if those lumps it has enough muscle.
It also makes a brilliant rolling meat rod.
But I am sure Hans recommendation is worth considering too.
I have a Dave Mason river rod 10.6 inches which is as light and handles like a stepped up Avon, it was made for the Teme really, Dave's passion, he reckons it would stop anything that swims. 🙂

The 11ft 1.75 is my favourite blank in torrix range, if Mark don’t mind a shorter and more powerful rod, I’d highly recommend the 11ft 1.75 torrix.
 
I do actually prefer 11ft rods, I've sold many a good rod just because it was 12ft.

The Torrix sounds like what I'm looking for, a 1.75 light and balanced enough to hold.

Not sure how I'm going to explain this to the other half, at least she doesn't see the invoices 😂

It's a shame Fosters Bob the Rod is no more, he did a no frills 11 ft Torrix for about £180 iirc. I will have a look around to see if anything out there, but they are snapped up quickly or want silly money.

This is just the start 😈😂

Also, it's through actioned so not what you're after but I've got these in 2.25lb 12ft, http://www.dlst.co.uk/specialists2.htm. They're not top heavy at all, more nicely balanced than my 12ft 1.75lb chimera I think (although I'm not complaining about that). I can imagine the 1.75lb in 12ft would be very light in the tip. My dads happy enough holding the 2.25lb for touch ledgering. I only mention it to say that they're out there.
 
If there's one thing this thread has proved, it's that we love spending other people's money. OP started out asking about a £140.00 rod that can be found discounted on eBay for £70.00... and we talk him into a £300.00 Torrix.

Just buy one Mark, life's too short. As for the Missus, remember the possibly apocryphal quote that goes: "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my gear for what I said I paid for it." 😆

I'm just terrible when it comes to tackle, I've bought and sold so many rods this year it's not even funny (I can tell from the look on the other halfs face whenever a new one turns up)

I don't mind splashing out if it's going to get me what I'm actually looking for. I mean, the amount of rods I've gone through and then had to sell at a loss to get rid of them I could have just bought something like a Harrison to begin with. It was just the not knowing how light and well balanced they were going to be.

The 11ft 1.75 Torrix sounds perfect.

Is that the Andy sliwa 10.6 you’re on about Neil , I still use mine on the Teme brilliant rod 👍

iv got the dave mason rod also brilliant rod and very well built , and still use it on the teme in the summer months .
 
IMO, Korum gear has gone downhill in recent years. I used to buy a lot but more recently, I have had things break, relatively soon after purchase. It's a shame because they have the specialist angler in mind and come up with some good ideas (albeit with the occasional bad one).
