Mark Tunley specialist multi tip

Hi, new to the forum and just wondering if anyone has had, used or at least maybe seen the Mark Tunley Mk1 specialist multi tip rod as I am seriously looking at getting one.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Mark showed me one last time I was up there.
Not used it in a fishing situation but the rod is just beautiful. The “magic” tip design is superb like the old normarks did with one of their multi tip rods years ago. It’s a very lovely rod.

Thanks Richard, they do look beautiful and it's the magic bit that got me really interested, my assumption is its about as close to a spliced tip as possible without being spliced and so versatile with all the different options.

Even spliced tips can be hit n miss because it very much depends on. Matching the solid tips action with the hollow section your splicing it to and I’ve had some awful ones over the years where that match is not good and the tip just zips round with a hinge point at the place where it enters a much more rigid hollow section.

What mark has done is given you complete hollow sections which are the tips. And each section is different in action so that it blends into the tip perfectly. So your not miss matching carriers with under or over rated tips like you get with nearly all multiple tip feeder rods.

Normark did something very similar years ago when you could buy the very rare and brittle bream tip as an extra. Each tip that come with the rod was a full section so it was always going to work seamlessly with the rod.

Hi Martin,

I have the 11,5 multi tip it's an incredible rod. I've had barbel to 14,6 on it. The low down power is border line magical.

I also own a Torrix 11ft 1.75, 2.00 and I haven't really used them this year.

Although my Torrix 11ft 1.75 remains my favourite rod, i just can't go without the multi tip now.

Like Rich says it's a true multi tip and the action is matched to the carrier through the tip. The tips are so strong that when you need bottom end power you just keep lifting the rod in the situations that require it.

If you want a rod for tench, barbel, touch ledgering for chub, still water roach, trotting (lake tip) and anything else you care to target. This one will do it all.
 
This sounds nice Anthony, is there a line rating on these models? I’ve often pondered the 13.5ft model but can’t really justify another rod as I have the acolyte feeders…..I just don’t want to look at the web page for fear of temptation 😂

Just as much power as the Torrix, but more versatile.

I bought a lightly used 11ft 1.75 Torrix early last year and ended up fishing with it all last Summer. It was fantastic, both light and powerful. It landed some good fish with no dramas.

Then I splashed out on an 11.5ft multi-tip in the Autumn with big chub in mind. I was after a quivertip rod with plenty of power….The heavy water all Winter resulted in a lack of use - a few average chub only. But I’m sure it will do exactly what Antony James said in an earlier post - it is deceptively powerful.

Ive already looked at the web page and yep its mistake. Now what can i sell to fund one?

MT doesn't specify a line rating like a traditional quiver would, because this is not a quiver. It is a "specialist" rod with a multi-tip. That means there is a minimum line due to the power of the rod, which is 8lb. However.... with the 30g quiver, I am using 4-6lb line no problem looking for silvers with a small maggot feeder. It is just that versatile, the butt section is so skinny.

I'm sure it feels lighter than my torrix, but I haven't weighed it! MT made my torrix', I have the same config with the SG Atlas Deep Draw SiC Specialist rings so the weight difference will be the blank only. It is definitely thinner at the bottom end.

I normally use 4-8lb for smaller fish or touch ledgering for chub and 14lb for specifically targeting barbel - thats with either the river tip normal conditions or the lake tip when the rivers pushing. All of my line is pallatrax gamma.

They are the same blank. I have a Major Craft spinning rod, and the blanks feel very similar in the lightness and feeling you get through the blank. He says they are Japanese anyhow.

It has as much power if not a little more at the bottom end imo, but it is lighter at the tip. The lake tip, which is the heaviest of them all is still a little lighter than my torrix.

He does 2 specialist - 1 multi tip and 1 float, both in either 11,6 or 13,6.
 
With a crucian on the other end as you can see the power hasn’t been touched, but soft enough not to bump fish off of the smaller verity.

I love the rod for river fishing etc and it’s good. But I prefer my 1.5lb torrix if it’s tench and crucian fishing. Or if no fear of a tench smashing me up in the winter my chimera Avon’.

But you won’t go wrong for a do it all rod as far as they go.

I’ve had good roach out of there on it still fun to play but it is on the up side of power for there 🙂 summer it won’t be it be good
