Darent Valley Specialist Extending Landing Net Handle

Richard Dawson

I had been using a Drennan twist lock specialist 3 metre handle until the mechanism thread stripped. Tried to get a replacement since October last year so decided to accept my losses, bin it and get another net handle.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of choice for specialist handles that aren't the flimsy floppy proper telescoping types.

I stumbled upon the Darent valley offering for £34.99.

The pole is really robust, nice and stiff and the screwdown locking type mechanism is infinitely better than the Drennan twist lock system. It's a bit heavier than the Drennan but not as to be unwieldy.

Also backed by a lifetime warranty.

Looks to be a lot of landing net handle for the money.

Totally agree with Richard, a lot for the price. I bought one of these for a pal setting up when he retired. The heavy handed so an so managed to over tighten it and broke the plastic “grippers” as seen in Richards picture. I visited the Tackle Box and they gave me a replacement part AND also a spare for mates tackle box just in case he does it again. Like the Drennan, don’t screw it too tight!
If I didn’t have two Drennan poles I would have this without question 👍👍👍

I've been using this handle and the 36 inch Darent Valley specialist net from Tackle Box for the last few months now. Mightily impressed with both.

In fact, I bought the handle, 36 inch net, 32 inch net and it was less than a one'er delivered to my door 👍 top notch gear.

Did you actually bin the drennan handle Richard?
I have a spare collet and would happily of give you some money for the handle to repair as a spare.

Not yet but its in a sorry state. I tried to repair the thread with some ptfe tape and ended up spraying that repositionable glue down the bottom section so the mechanism could get some purchase.

The bottom tube would need cleaning out, I think a rag soaked in meths or some other type of thinner and pulled through should do it.

You're welcome to have it free if you think you can rescue it 👍

Where are you located Rich?
I’m not gonna ask you to waste your time packing it up so if I can tie the pick up with another job I’ll happily bung a tenna in your pocket. Depends on where you are and where I’ve got work on at moment.
Cheers for that mate.
