Hook keeper

Some advice please. I have decided to bring an old carp rod into service to use as a "spodding" rod. I want to keep it made up with a clip on the end so I can bait up as soon as I arrive at the swim. The problem is it doesn't have a hook keeper ring. Any ideas as to the easiest method to fit a hook keeper to a rod that doesn't already have one? Btw I know I could use one of the rings but thought it would be nice to have a "proper" hook keeper.

If you buy a packet of plastic ‘c’ clips (as used to drop leads) simply put one on a leg of a ring and attach the clip to that. That way you don’t damage the ring (or the hook if you use ‘c’ clips for that job too).

Otherwise I guess it’s a case of whipping on a keeper ring - which might look a bit odd unless you remove any varnish/writing on the butt first…..

A thread from earlier this year Paul, might be of use.

I've used women's/girl's hair bobbles sited just up from the female (top section) joint/ferrule for many years now. I also site one on the butt end of my rod handle so the 2 sections made up rods can be transported (tip to butt) held together by those bands.
Below ones are fabric covered, but the best ones are not covered, and are thicker.

Get one of these better for carrying a made up “spod” rod

Wouldn't you just know it? A specialised item produced for a specific task! Is it only angling that benefits from such inventive minds? I would never have believed that the market for "spod protectors" was large enough to fund development and manufacture of such an item!
