Cadence Barbel Rods

Anyone had a chance to have a waggle or bought one of these rods yet? The stock level on their website is reducing so people must be buying them unseen. Be interested in any feedback.

Reckon there was a hell of a lot of pre-orders from Des Taylor's fans on Facebook. They've been heavily pushed on there, but guess they'll be good and have a following.

Mate has bought a pair said they were stunning looking rods going to have alook at them in the morning

I was asked to field test the 2lb tc version a couple of years ago. Thankfully they had replaced the single leg rings to something more substantial after the feedback. I used them exclusively on the trent and handled feeders up to 6oz no problems. I used them alongside a 2lb greys prodigy and they are a bit faster tippier than the Greys thats more of a through action. However I am not sure if further changes have been made to the blank.

Didn’t know they had launched them but fuji k series rings and Fuji reel seats - that’s a good start
Got a heavy feeder and float from Cadence and simply cannot fault them , same with the reels
I really cannot justify some new barbel rods but if I was in the market , and based on purchases to date, I’d have a pair

looks nice but a hook keeper seems s simple option they seem to have overlooked?

It’s a simple thing a lot of rod manufacturers seem to leave off. Free spirits are buggers for not having them.
should come on every specialist rod. Even if some people don’t use them, they are hardly in the way. Drives me mad when they ain’t there as you’ve then got to use the guide legs which is never really a good thing.
I bought a couple of those Fuji hook keepers with the O rings to use on my free spirits. Total rubbish they move about all over the plate. I’ll get some whipped on at some point.

The cadence barbel rods do have hook keepers on them
Yes they do, I was supposed to say that earlier.

does not show hook keepers on there web site but if they do then all good.

Not a very nice job at all. I’m not saying I could do better but look at the gaps in that whipping and why wouldn’t they take it to the end of the hook keeper plate.
im a stickler for details and that’s quite poor if you ask me.
Yes I remember the reel tutorials 😁👍
Hear what you are saying but it's a mass produced rod. I noticed on one of my Chimeras that's only a few years old, it's starting to fog up under the varnish and this has been hand-built in the UK. Never seen this on any of my other rods?
I still bet they are a great rod for the money. Be really interested to hear feedback.

So who actually make these rods? I see the finish on the cork handle , dare I say is not top quality. Are they better than Harrison Free Spirit or even Drennan, and for me the finish is a bit garish.
Ok they have got Big Des onside, but he has never been shy on making a few quid on the back of a bit of sponsorship.
And the reels attract a B.G.O.F deal, cant see any quality reel manufacture do that.
But I do like James the boss of Cadence, very good presenter, and a fine angler.

The cork is not what I would describe as 'top quality'. Nice matching filler though and typical of mid range priced rods.
Hook keepers - a lot of people do not use them - when I used to build rods I invariably asked whether the customer required one.
Sometimes the fitting of a hook keeper on a wind down reel fitting can involve positioning further up the rod to allow full removal of the fore grip for cleaning. This does not usually apply to EVA or Duplon.
There are alternative design hook keepers to the simple loop or fold up/down one. You can always position the keeper in a different position than the usual.

I have put a couple of the little plastic hook keepers that are held on with rubber bands, which you can buy cheap as chips, on my free spirit rods. As Richard notes, this type of assembly slips/moves around on the blank and can be a pain, however it seems a far safer option than hooking onto the guide legs!
