Gaz I've been getting lure fishing gear from fish deal this year . Got some good deals on lures that are hard to get hold of in the UK, and generally quick delivery 👍

    Roach Rod Advice

There are lots of good rods on the market that will cover a multitude of situations. What you need to think about is what you need the rod to be able to do? A few thoughts... What weight does it need to cast? (size of river and conditions you will want to fish in) What other species are you...

    Chub Rod Advice

Pete I can recommend the Free Spirit CTX Tamer in the 1.5TC for chub fishing on the ribble. Used it for a couple of seasons now for both chub and roach (mainly roach) 😄 Prior to this for quite a few years I was using a Harrison Sullis 1.6TC which is a lovely rod, but not quite as soft action...

    Warmest socks

Hi Paul Thanks for the offer for the neoprene waders, but I'm ok as already have a decent pair With you on the merino underwear, I got a set a few seasons back and they do make a real difference. My fishing in winter is generally very mobile and when I fish for grayling on some of the rivers...

    Warmest socks

Thanks for link Gerry Ordered some for cold water wading this winter. I try to keep using breathables as long as possible as they are far more comfortable, its only when the temp really drops that I change to neoprenes. My feet suffer first but hopefully they will make a difference... Cheers

What float line do you use? Floating or standard?

Used 8lb ultima power steel for a good few years for trotting for barbel. Good reliable line with little stretch that behaves well on a pin. Give the spool a good soaking of GT85 and it floats well, make sure you spray the line when it's on the spool and not when it's loaded on your reel...

    using rolling meat

Hi Josh I see from your Dane thread that you are quite new to barbel fishing, don't know how well you know the Ribble? but If you are going to try the rolling method on this river, I'd pick your area carefully as it can be very snaggy with bedrock and boulders. I fish meat quite a bit in the...

    Daiwa ninja or legalis reels

Had the 4000A ninja for about a year now, and so far so good with regards to performance. Mainly used for light feeder fishing and live baiting for perch, nice smooth clutch even when tightened down after hooking the odd rouge pike. I would have reservations about chucking big weights out for...

    Perch

I changed to circle hooks a couple of years ago and hook ups have massively improved. Most of the time when using liveys (3-4") I tail hook bait on a free running paternoster using a size 1 or 1/0 mustad demon circle hook, tied on a loop. I also use circle hooks (same pattern and tied on a...

Talk to me about float rods

George Have you had a look at alternatives to Drennan rods ? The Tri-cast John Allertons are a very nice rod for silvers, as are the higher end Daiwa float rods I'd definitely have a look at these options before purchasing a Drennan of any model Hope you find what you are after !

    Bedchair

Steve I'd definitely take into consideration how heavy it is, if you have a decent walk to swim This may help? https://carptacklereview.wordpress.com/2016/02/21/9-of-the-lightest-bedchairs-in-carp-fishing-under-10kg/

All Time Favourite Piece Of Barbel Tackle ???

A exceptional river match angler told me as a young boy that "the best piece of fishing tackle that you will ever own is between your ears" ;)

    Wallis Casting

Each to their own, but for me there is no better tool for controlling a float when trotting, than a pin ;) Mark, Hopefully you will get someone close to home to teach you how to cast, as it really does open up a lot more opportunities. If you don't though, and are prepared to travel up to...

    Bird food bait

Chris Can recommend this stuff TK Conditioner - Bamfords Top Flight I haven't made my own baits for a few years now as very rarely fish a lead approach. I'm cetrainly no expert, but I used to be quite keen at one time, and have added the above ground down in a few different base mixes...
