Old Tackle that should comeback

I thought it would be fun to see what old brand? tackle item? from the past that you wished you kept or was still going to this day....you can't say John Holmes.

Mine is Northwestern
 
Yes to your NW, and yes to Sportex in its heyday.

Nice to see Allcocks producing 1915 to 1939 Aerials again, too.

Hi Adam - I picked up a NW rod a couple of seasons ago and, after a bit of investigation, I found out that NW blanks are still being made (at least, they were then) in Middleton, Manchester. I can't elaborate on that, however :)

Lovely blanks all the same. Mine is a 11" 2lb tc Specimen rod I picked up from Ebay for £25.

Tackle manufacturers seem slow to take up the marketing opportunities that old tackle company names offer. From a salesman's point a view I'm sure a range of current Allcock Aerials would be a dream, as would an MK II Wizard, B. James RW MK V carp etc....

Wonder what happened to all those old name, who owns them now etc.? Probably more a question for "over the road".
 
Ah yes mr Boote those old normark rods rods were the dogs doodahs!. I remember the microlites and the early marco medallions lovely float rods!!
 
Yes, proper soft lead shot, that doesn't damage the line, in all sizes.
Before someone mentions swans, we haven't used lead for nigh on 20 years & we still get blamed for poisoning them!

Why on earth did you start this topic, it takes me back many years when i swopped an Ariel Reel for a pair of Ski-tex moon boots, not the nice green ones, but a blue pair, they were one of the first, i still cringe at that moment of madness.

yes,and me, carp rod from the 80's, 11ft, 2lbtc, grey with green eyes...damn..:(

Just a little devilment on my part.
River closed season, lakes not yet got going & the weather poor.
I'm BORED!

Ah yes...memories.

I recall my parents, who didn't have to halfpennies to rub together, buying me a sea fishing rod....it was a solid wooden affair, rather like an overly thick snooker que....except it was shorter and not so responsive :D That was followed by a solid green glass thing about 6' long...could have landed Moby Dick without putting a bend in it :p:

I still have what's left of a Sportex beachcaster in my garage....bright pink Regalox lining to the rings....that would please a certain fella :D

Then came fresh water fishing...tank aerial rods (awful damned things), an alloy centerpin reel with a ratchet you couldn't turn off, which was so loud I used to pray I didn't catch anything, because of the shouts and bricks that came my way when I reeled in :D

I recall having a far east made split cane 'thing' in the early sixties...it had about a zillion different sections that converted it from float rod to leger rod, to spinning rod, carp rod...would probably have been better holding up sweet peas, but I though it was great at the time :D

Then followed various dubious glass 'float' rods, with the pinnacle being the Edgar Sealey 'Blue Match'...a lovely rod for it's time.

I think I still have a 'Dennis Pye' split cane pike rod somewhere...can't remember who made it though...guess I ought to dig it out sometime.

I also still have a Bakelite centre pin type reel that I bought from the late Colonel Parkers widdow, I should think somewhere around the mid/late sixties. I was a member of a tiny club called the Pinner Angling Society at the time, and the dear lady asked us to sell all his tackle when he died...helped her a little I guess.

Funny what memories pop up when threads like this start :D
