Fox duo lite FX barbel.rods....

Any one have any feedback on these, looking at getting a pair of new rods but on a budget of £100 per rod, these keep coming up and I use the lighter model for my perching and have been happy with them but what are these like??

Many Thanks,

Andy.

I have no experience with them Andy, but I know they come in a multitude of different versions, 11', 12', 1.75 up to 2.75 TC, twin tips...and so on. To help people help you, which ones were you looking at?

Cheers, Dave.

I fish a small river with an 11foot 1.5tc model and its handled any barbel ive hooked fine,, its a light rod in weight and bends nicely through to the butt without feeling undergunned,,ive had carp to near on 20lb off the surface with it too

Fox do a duolite 11' 1.5 tc with avon and quiver tops, but I don't think that one is in the FX range that Andy was asking about is it Iain?

Cheers, Dave.

Iv got the 2.75tc amazing rods, unbelievable casting power lovely carbon effect blank with a white tip to aid tip movement.

The Greys Barbel rods ive seen look as though they were designed 20 years ago, ugly things, they dont compare even to the Fox Warrior S range. For the money they cost i dont see how you can go wrong with the Duo FX range, look and feel the part.

Greys

To be honest, I'm not that bothered about the look Andy, it's more about the action, and I think the Greys Prodigy has a lovely action. If I did have a criticism though, it would be that the handle is a tad short for me and the cork isn't the best quality. As for the Fox one's I can't comment, as I haven't used any.

Have fox ever made a poor Barbel rod....?

From what iv seen, never, iv got two 15fts and two nex fx specimen aswel as my two warrior xarp rods all are perfect for what i need and never ever let me down.

Sorry, I'm not sure if 'looks the part' is good enough.
The first Fox barbel rod was a cracker as well it should have been as apart from the colour it was a direct copy of the Harrison 1.5 specialist, even down to the ring spacing, handle length and reel seat position.
Since then they have gone down hill, the quality has dropped off and imo they are living on past glory's.
That 15' thing is a complete abortion, it's completely top heavy, it's got the biggest flat spot I have ever come across on any rod, the middle 5' may as well be a stick, and the handle is way to short for anyone to wind it up for a full chuck. I'm not being in the least bit facetious when I say there are plenty of cheap beachcasters which would do a better job.
My advice would be save your money and keep an eye on eBay for a decent second hand Harrison or if you want to stick to mainstream rods Daiwa made some beauties.

Thanks for the insight Ade, trouble is folk always, well nearly always 'push' what they have, not a very good unbiased view. I am in the market for a flood rod for the Severn, and I have concluded that I will have to shell out a few quid on a Harrison or similar, but the bl00dy central heating pump has gone (again) so it will have to be put on hold.

However I can confirm Myson pumps are CARP!!

just out of interest , which fox rod do you refer to as the harrison copy ?

i few rods , from a torrix down in price terms

a duo lite 11ft 1.5 though is one of my favourites , lovely through action , nice and light and you can give the fish the 'butt' whithout fear imho . superb little tool for small rivers , i would also think it would make a nice tench feeder rod when using alarms and bolt rigs

this isnt the first time though that ive heard the latter models rubbished

I have 3 Fox rods and they're all excellent. The 11' XS Duo is a superb rod for small rivers and has a bit more poke than the Harrison's I've used. This is probabaly a personal preference thing though, as some people like the, 'it bends right through to the butt section' type of action on their rods, where I like the power to come in earlier.

Just trying to add a bit of balance. Bob Gill's rods are indeed things of beauty (I have one) but the blanks they are built upon are not the be-all and end-all of rod design IMO.

Don't know about Fox rods but I would say twin tips are the way to go as they cover you for different conditions.

This is my first season barbel fishing and I bought a pair of Wychwood Rogue 1.5lbs TC which were great in the summer but as soon as there was some extra water I wished I had bougt twin tip rods.
