    Making your own bait.

I’ve bought some BAF TropAmino HMBB Basemix and going to fish it on one stretch of the river this season with zero flavour to see how I get on. Historically I’ve always used a JB flavour with base mix so will interested to see how I get on. Have started the pre-baiting campaign already.

    Making your own bait.

Absolutely this. A barbel’s natural diet consists of slugs, worms, insect larvae and mussels. None of which give off a strong scent compared to flavours in home made bait. Also, remember what you smell through your nose is very different to how a fish smells. Their key trigger is amino acids...

    JB Taste F2 basemix

And me, just can’t justify the postage. I still use JB flavours but get base mix from BAF now.

    JB Taste F2 basemix

Taste F2 and BS4 worked for me last season. Only issue is if you’re only buying 1kg the cost of shipping is 1/2 the price of the product.

    If you....

I have a good selection of rods including custom Baby Ballistas but I’d grab my Greys Prodigy 1.75lb rod as it’s got the most memories.

Harrison baby ballista rods 11ft 2.5lb tc

I have these exact rods in burgundy and they are superb. Had a double-figure Carp at the weekend and the playing action is lovely, Doesn’t play like a 2.5TC rod at all which is a bonus. I’m going to take mine barbel fishing when the time’s right. £400 is a bargain price for these, I can’t see...

Visited the most private lake in the UK

Let’s hope HRH isn’t a member ok here !!! Great story though, and I can confirm there were zero flamingos there. It’s a beautiful place but can see why The Queen didn’t like it as there’s creed, building and traffic noise everywhere.

Visited the most private lake in the UK

It’s Lord Burt thank you very much 😂😂😂 My other half got nominated through work re Services to Education…not bad as she’s only 36. We had a very formal letter drop through the post a few months ago re an invitation to the “Kings Garden Party”. We almost fainted on the floor when we read it ...

Visited the most private lake in the UK

Just got back from Buckingham Palace Garden Party yesterday and the lake there is beautiful. Loads of water birds and in a stunning setting.

Korum waist trotting tray, Is this a good or dumb idea?

IMO Korum are creating products for problems that don’t exist. Just get a bum bag (Trakker do a good mesh boilie one) and put your bait and bits in there. I always wear a hat when fishing so anything pointy just gets tucked behind my ears.

What luggage bag for roaving with a float rod?

I have the Speero “Stalker” bag and it’s great for roving. Over the shoulder design and enough space to take all you need for an evening session.

    Making your own bait.

I’ve listened to x4 of them already as currently on hols in Portugal. Really really, useful and loads of good tips. I must admit I was a bit lost with the BAF one as didn’t understand half the stuff they were referring to !!!

    Making your own bait.

Great heads-up. Just listened to the first one and half way thru the second and very interesting. Love the tip about soaking rocks in liquids to get flavour in the swim. Very simple but effective.

    Making your own bait.

I’ve been looking at their base mixes and the pricing is good. Nice they are transparent with ingredients too. The “Fire and Ice” is the one I may go for but 10Kg is a lot to order if it’s not to my likening.

    Making your own bait.

I started using JB baits last year and had 2 barbel over two sessions on the Warks Avon. The main reasons I use it are as follows: - I can whip up a 1-egg mix in about 15minutes meaning the bait is as fresh as it can be when I use it - I’m 95% confident that no one else is using the same bait...

Float rod comparison Free Spirit vs Drennan

Don’t discount the Cadence CR10 15ft #2 rod too. I was after a trotting rod that could easily land a double whilst light enough to manage a float down a small river (Warks Avon).

Had some custom rods made recently

Been roped into joining a 1acre carp lake locally and struggled to find any decent carp rods that I liked. Too much choice and ironically the best blanks I came across were the ones on the £45 Advanta rods !!! Came across a rod builder in Wales and he’s just built these for me. 11ft 2.25lb...

    New centrerpin

I have a few pins but this is the easiest one to live with and looks the business. Bang on budget and it is so easy to use as you can twist it 90degrees and cast like a normal reel. https://www.jwyoungandsons.com/store/Ray-Walton-Lightweight-Rolling-Pin-in-Heritage-Green-p337358711
