    Muckboots Tay or Taysports

Have had a pair of Tays since last summer and used them all through winter. Just put more socks on and didn't really have too much trouble. On the coldest of days it can creep in a little bit but I feel that if I had got the Tay sport that I wouldnt be able to use them on the milder days. I...

    Worm on the float

I was out yesterday trying this but struggled to connect with anything as the fish were just nibbling the ends of the worm. The bite will also never develop because they feel the buoyancy of the float. It may work with just a pinch of the worm but I just took the float off and pinched a few...

    Brolly type shelters

I have a Korum one without storm sides (wish I did have storm sides). And it's perfect for the job. You erect it then unscrew the pole and it has another verticle screw point that you can screw it in to so leaving the whole brolly to sit under. Also has pegging points and some durable pegs...

    Food!

Heinz Big soup in a flask, Couple of cheese and pickle sandwiches, couple of apples and a flask of tea/ bottle of squash (depending on weather). That would be the healthy option. When I'm feeling lazy its what ever the local coop has on special off in the sandwich shelves and a couple of pastys...

    Bait dropping and roving

Ok for the time being I may just try with one rod and use a small light bait dropper. I think it probably is the key to a better catch rate. Hopefully get out on Sunday to give it a go if I can sort myself out with a couple of bait droppers. :S

    Bait dropping and roving

I think the first River they fish on the dvd's is the Dove. Sorry I know I'm almost trying to sell it. I just believe that they have given me a great insite into barbel fishing and I feel understand it more. Still blanking though ;p As for the seperate rod I like the idea of the Landing net...

    Bait dropping and roving

The Barbel Days And Ways DVD's show this style of fishing well. They do similar to Paul's idea but I believe they cycled 3 swims. They were using the Thamesley bait dropper (now Dinsmore) and filling it with either hemp and pellets (with 3 different sizes) or hemp and caster. I think the usual...

    Small River/Few Barbel Advice

Thanks Ian, Been going through so much barbel stuff to find answers recently. I always think I have a plan then I get to the river and it starts to slowly disintegrate as I lose confidence. I read both your articles :) Great read and I appreciate you taking the time to help some of us out. I...

    Small River/Few Barbel Advice

I have the exact same problem so thanks for the information Anthony and Ian. A quick question that relates to this thread. There are many good looking holding spots on the stretch but I have no evidence that there are barbel in any of them. I have never seen a barbel and I walk the stretch...

    Chub Rod

Don't have a great deal of knowledge about many rods but I chose a Drennan Specialist Avon quiver 1.25 for my chubbing and it is perfect . I just use it with the avon tip and touch ledger but it is still soft enough to show bites. And on tough days the quivers are very useful too. A great rod...

    tench fishing

I'm very much looking forward to hopefully catching some tench this year. I very rarely fish stillwaters but would love to have a crack at a few more species, particularly Tench. I've only ever caught a 4lber from Harris Lake Marsh Farm. I've been in the tackle shop picking up floats and...

Advice on a Two Rod Holdall

Also have the Korum Total Protection Holdall and can recommend highly, not too heavy, has good rigidity so very protective, plenty of space, spacious pockets. Although I don't use it for carp rods often, I can easily fit my made up rods on with the ST1000RA reel, so plenty of space for all...

    chub

Ah well you were justly rewarded. It's always the way though, anyone who is willing to put the effort in will reap the rewards. I live a little further afield but going to have a good ol crack for chub and hopefully my first barbel before the seasons up. I have come to the idea that the more...

    Tay Muckboot

I have used my Tays for the first winter and would recommend that you can get away just fine without the sports. Just add an extra pair of socks. Should be addequate in summer if a little hot but may just change into hiking boots when it gets really hot. I also picked the Tays because of the...

    Scales????

Tested my Flyweights. They are completely dead on accurate. Must not have weighed enough fish on them;p

    Scales????

I haven't had any problems with the flyweight's. My local tackle shop recommended them and many of the pro's don't seem to worry while using them. Might go search up this thread. Ah just looked that's a shame. I really liked them, Fits so easily in the zipped clear pocket of my ruck bag, but...
